In some recent training, in preparation for my time in Kurdistan, I wrote an ‘opposite’ version of vs 15-22 of Psalm 103, switching the truth for the way I sometimes think, feel and behave. It’s a reminder of the absurdity of this, and yet it’s often how I act:
As for me, I am infinitely important,
Everything I do matters more than life itself
Set in stone, it lasts forever
and the mark of my actions remain.
The changeable love of God
comes and goes depending
on my actions,
The goal posts change depending
on his mood and mine.
I have established my throne from an armchair
and my opinion rules over all.
Bless lists, O you ticked items
you achievements, obeying my organisational skills.
Rejoice in things that fit into your schedule
Be happy when you have completed something measurable
Great are timetables, they get things done.
I repeat, this is NOT true. go and look up the real version. It’s great

Like it.
